The Essendon 2016 AFL Footy Stamps are sure to delight footy fans and stamp collectors alike. Each pack contains 20 x $1 stamps and tabs, with the tabs featuring 20 players from the current Essendon squad.
Featured on the back of the pack is the full 2016 squad and some of the key milestones beckoning for some of the players.
Essendon’s 2016 season has been turned upside down following WADA’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over Essendon’s use of supplements during the 2012 season. With 12 senior Essendon players suspended for the entire season, some of Essendon’s promising youngsters are likely to gain rapid senior experience, including its two prized 2015 first-round draft picks, Darcy Parish (pick 4), a classy midfielder, and the mature-bodied utility Aaron Francis (pick 5). Second and third year players expected to step up include the promising forwards Jayden Laverde ( 9 games) and Kyle Langford ( 8 games), speedster Orazio Fantasia ( 8 games) and the improving Shaun Edwards (21 games). Clever forward Nick Kommer returns after a year off with a patella injury. VFL recruits, defenders Michael Hartley (Coburg) and Mitch Brown (Sandringham), get a second chance at AFL level after being delisted by Collingwood and the Geelong Cats respectively in the past.
Much will fall on the shoulders of new coach John Worsfold, a West Coast Eagles premiership player and coach, and experienced players such as Brendon Goddard (269 games, named 2016 captain), Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney (230 games), former best and fairest David Zaharakis (126 games), brilliant midfielder Zach Merrett (37 games) and recruits, Swans premiership player Craig Bird (137 games) and ex-Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger (108 games).
