In 1916 the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) established the Snapshots from Home League of Australia, which aimed to raise the morale of those Australians serving in the First World War by supplying them with photographs of their loved ones at home.
These precious photos were then sent free of charge via the YMCA to troops in hospitals and on the front line in Europe and the Middle East.
The ‘Send them all snapshots from home’ poster was among several Australian copies of a series of British posters commissioned in 1915 by the YMCA. Designed by the artist Fred Pegram, this poster featured a group of soldiers in a French village smiling and passing around photographs received from home. It was one of the most effective First World War campaigns in Australia.
The coin’s reverse features a coloured representation of the ‘Send them all snapshots from home’, poster headed by the inscription AUSTRALIAN HOME LEAGUE.
The coin is housed in a contemporary, latex case which displays both sides of the coin. The case is packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
