In 2011, the Royal Military College (RMC) at Duntroon celebrates 100 years of preparing officers for service in Australia's permanent military forces. Following Lord Kitchener's 1910 report to the Minister for Defence on the operation of military colleges in the United States, Britain and Canada, Colonel William Throsby Bridges set about establishing the RMC on a former sheep station near Canberra named "Duntroon".
On 27 June, the Governor-General, Lord Dudley, officially opened the RMC, and the first intake of candidates began their training under Brigadier-General William Throsby Bridges, as he was by then known.
